Area code 860
The area code 860 is basically a telephone area code which covers the areas of eastern and northwestern parts of Connecticut. The area code 860 covers a greater part of the state and also covers the adjoining areas of the eastern and western part of the state. In order to lay a neat outline of its service areas, it can be said that the area code runs along several towns of Connecticut which includes town of New Milford Water Town and Southington.
The area code 860 was not the original area code which existed./ With the increase in population and exhaustion of the pre assigned code , a new code was added. Before this area code was added, 203 was the area code that covered a larger area of the United States of America. It was in the year 1995 the new area code of 860 was added to replace the old code of 203. This was done when the area code was cut back to only two counties, Fairfield and New Haven counties.
The area code covers some of the major cities and towns which includes Avon, Bristol, Litchfield, Manchester, Middletown and New Britain.These are some of the important towns that till today uses the area code 860. Be it telephone prefix or internet dial-up connection, the code serves the dual purpose.
Several plans were in process to overlay the existing area code. But nothing came in to action and the area code of 860 remained untouched. It was in the year 1999 the Connecticut Public Utility Commission, in August 1999, came up with the idea of overlaying the current area code 860 with 959. The implementation of this idea was postponed to a decade. This happened in order to preserve the existing codes.
It was again in the year 2008 , this topic was broached and it was decided that within two years the new area code will be overlayed. The overlaying process was about to be started from March 2009 which has been again rescheduled to December 12 , 2009. The overlay process will be manifested by the year 2011.
The areas are so devided that each have their respective internet service providers who provide smooth connection at a lightening speed and that too at a competitive price. With the influx of number of channels the demand for cable connection is ever rising. In order to meet that several internet and cable tv service providers have cropped up. Some of the service providers who provide services in these areas are Ace Dialup, Admiral Online, ACERX.NET, A WebRENO.NET.
Service providers like the above are known to provide very active connections which are based of area codes. The area code is very important in order to determine the limitation of the area till which the services will be provided. The overlay initially might have been capable of creating some confusion in regard to the usage of the codes. But as time passed the clarity of codes came in to being and people started accepting the new area codes.
