The area code 859 covers a larger area of the state of Kentucky. Often the number 859 is associated with a touch-tone phone alphabetical order UKY which stands for University of Kentucky that is located in Lexington. On a touch phone the numbers 859 corresponds to UKY.
Before the population started rising and the demand for more and more cable operators started building up, The area had a different area code. Before the year 1999 the area of code of this state was 606 which covered the largest area of this state. But as the state cities and counties started expanding the 606 area code was diminishing in supply. Soon there was a requirement of a new code that would satisfy the demands of the increasing population. A meeting was held to discuss the possibilities and in 1999 it was decided that a new area code will be added which is 859.
It is a split from 606. The service area that it encompasses covers a large area which includes several counties. Apart from the counties, the area code also covers the suburbs of these counties
Some of the other cities apart from Lexington that have been given this area code include the cities of Nicholasville, Covington, Richmond, Danville and Mount Sterling Florence. Apart from these the area code also covers other parts of northern Kentucky.

All of them are common internet service providers accessed by the greater population of the state.
