Area code 856
The origin of Area Code 856 is in the year 1999. It is an area code in the United States of the state New Jersey. The area code was born due to the split of area code 609. The code belongs to a wide range of locality, with southwestern New Jersey in particular. The Camden/Cherry Hill and Vineland areas along with smaller areas of Willingboro Township come under the purview of this code. In addition the western part of Burlington County and the areas spreading across the north and east also comes under this code. The geographical area which comes under this code is just next to Philadelphia. The area code also covers several suburbs of Philadelphia.
Since it transcends the borders of two states, the area code is assigned to the land lines and cell phones of both the areas. Exceptions are there, where many people have cell phone number starting with the 609 area code.
As part of the North American numbering plan, 201 was assigned the initial area code covering the entire New Jersey area. It was in the year 1958, the area code got split and the southern portion of the state was assigned with an area code of 609.
With the rising population index in this area the demand for phone and internet connections also started rising. This led to the fast exhaustion of the 609 area code. It was then decided in the year 1999 that a new area code be assigned to the area. The area code 856 was announced to be the new area code by the Bell Atlantic in the month of March. Soon it was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. Shortly in the month of June the announcement came in to effect. As the demand increased, services also started flowing in. The Bell Atlantic was the only existing company which could meet the enormous demand from the increasing population of that area.
Residents and business sector who resided on the eastern side of the split restored the 609 code. Those who stayed on the western side were assigned the new 856 area code. The action instantaneously triggered the supply of numbers to satisfy the demands of increasing consumer needs and the demands for new telecommunications services.
Thus Bell Atlantic arrived at the forefront of the brand new communications and information industry. It provided services to more than 42 million telephone access lines and 8.6 million wireless customers all over the world. The Bell Atlantic franchises are known for their advanced wireline voice and data services. They are the market leaders in wireless services.
