Area Code 832
The system of area codes began in the year 1940 in The United States and Canada. Under the area code system the States and Provinces that had a single digit number code were given a three digit number code for phone services throughout the United States and Canada. Bell Laboratories and AT & T introduced this system and called it The North American Numbering Plan or the NANP. The services began in 1947. All the States and Provinces that had a single area code were allotted a three digit area code with 0 as the middle number. Those states and provinces that had more than one area code were assigned 1 as the middle number. The first and third digits of the area code number depended upon the density of population in a particular region. The local numbers and area codes were not permitted to begin with the digits of 1 and 0. The second number of the code was always 1 and 0. In this way just by looking at the first three digits of a number one could recognize whether the call was a local or a long distance one. In 1995 the second phase of the development of the Plan began and the area codes could have any number between the three digits and that also included 0 and 9 as the second digit of the area code.
The area codes were equally distributed among the States and Provinces of The United States and Canada. The system began giving phone services in 1947. The system was launched with 86 codes at that time. When the population in the areas increased these area codes had to be split into many area codes to give better services to the people in those regions.
The area served by the NANP is divided into smaller Numbering Plan Areas (NPAs) and they are each identified by a three-digit NPA code which is generally called an area code.
