Area Code 303
Conceived in the 1940s, the plan for dividing the US states under specific area codes became hugely successful. The plan was devised by AT&T and Bells Laboratories and went into effect in 1947. The aim of implementing the area code plans was to avoid confusion regarding the telecom service areas.
According to the original plan, the area codes were known as the Numbering Plan Areas while the whole plan was called North American Numbering Plan. In 1998, area code 303 was overlaid with another area code, 720. This means that if you wish to dial a number in that area, you need to dial both these codes before the number in order to get through. Though areas have been carved out and assigned to different area codes, area code 303 remains the significant area code of the state.
