Area code 253
North American Numbering Plan (NANP) along with its area codes was devised and implemented by AT&T Bell Laboratories, one of the leading telecom based services providers in United States. The system consisted of numeric codes designated to particular areas. One code represented a certain area. The idea was to provide an identification with which a certain area can be located easily in terms of telephone services.
This system was implemented in the year 1947. The NANP was designed as a coding system for use in 24 countries which includes Canada, US and its territories across the world and the countries in the Caribbean. At the time of the introduction there were 86 different area codes. Over the year the number has become 280 due to the increase in the telecom traffic in these areas.
