Area Code is linked with the telephone services both landline and wireless. It is provided to denote a specific region. In other words the actual need for the area code is it acts as a number with which we can identify that particular place. This system of providing area codes to differentiate specific regions was devised and put into practice by AT&T Bell Laboratories. It was named as the North American Numbering Plan. It consisted of a wide array of area codes given to different states. It was implemented in 1947. Area code 248 serves the northern part of the sate of Michigan. The area code 248 was a created by splitting area code 810 in the year 1997 to divert the heavy traffic of calls. Recently area code 947 was introduced as an overlay for area code 248.
