Area code 234
The concept of Area Code is associated with all kinds of telecom based services and is given denotes a particular region. In simple words the area code is like an identification number which is used to locate a particular region among many. This particular system if giving area codes to differentiate several regions was structured and implemented by the AT&T Bell Laboratories. Known as the North American Numbering Plan it had an extensive array of area codes designated to different states and was introduced in the year 1947, after the World War II. The NANP, so it is called, was designed as an integrated telephone numbering system which was planed to be used for 24 different countries in the continent of North America which included Canada, US and its territories, the Caribbean island countries.
The original number of area codes during the introduction was 86. Later due to the increasing demand for telephone services and increasing subscribers several other area codes were created and at present the total number areas codes is 280.
During the introduction in 1947, a number state and its provinces were designated a single three digit area code. These particular area codes were had 0 in the middle of the code like Florida was designated as 305 and 203 for Connecticut. Those states which were given more than one area code had the digit 1 in the middle of the code, such as California was given 213 and 916 while New York was designated with area codes 518 and 216. The concept of more than one area code was developed as some of the states had larger concentration of subscribers.
When this particular idea of areas codes was implemented in the year 1947, area code 234 was the part of the larger area code 303. The area code 330 was originally covered the northeastern part of the state of Ohio and it was introduced in 1996. The area code 234 was actually an overlay but in October 2000 is upgraded to an area code by itself. The phone numbers were assigned in the year 2003 for this area code. It serves Akron, Canton, Youngstown, and Warren areas. Prior to 1996 the area codes 330 and 234 were part of area code 216. It is originally a part of the North American Numbering Plan codes since its implementation.
