Area Code 229
The Area Code is essentially related to telephone services but it gives a particular place its unique identity. This system of designating an area code for a particular area code was planned and introduced by the AT&T Bell Laboratories. In 1947 the North American Numbering Plan with the extensive concept of area codes was introduced. The NANP is an integrated telephone numbering system for 24 different countries including Canada, Caribbean islands, US and the territories under US.
When the concept of area code was introduced in 1947, area code 229 did not exist. The original number of area codes during the introduction was 86. Later over the years several others were created and now the total number stands as 280 different area codes.
In 1947, most of the states and its provinces which had single digit area codes were given three digit area codes. These area codes had the digit 0 as the number in the middle of the code, for example 305 for Florida and 203 for Connecticut. States with more than one area code were given codes with numeral 1 in the middle, such as 213 and 916 for various parts of California State or 518 and 216 of New York.
Area code 229 was originally not a part of the North American telephone area code but later it was made into an area code. Originally it was part of the area code 912 covering the south western part of the state of Georgia.
