Area Code 224
North American Numbering Number Plan or NANP is the telephone numbering system that was introduced in the year 1947. This numbering plan was developed by the researchers at the AT&T and Bell Laboratories. Before the development of the area codes the states and provinces used only one code to communicate. Then the system of three digit area code replaced it and is being used even today. The system of area codes provided three digit area codes to all the states and provinces in the United States of America. Under this system all the states and provinces that used only one area code were provided with numbers that had the middle digit as 0 and the states and provinces that used more than one area code were provided with numbers that had 1 as the middle digit. The first and the third digit of the area code depended on the population density of the area under consideration. The area codes as well as the local numbers never started with the digit 1 or 0. This allowed people to recognize whether the call is a local or long distance call. The regions that are not covered by the North American Numbering Plan are the Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean regions. In eh NANP numbering system al the numbers start with the 3 digit area code and the 7 digit local numbers and this is applicable to all the states and provinces in the United States of America.
The area code system was launched in the year 1947 and initially a total of 86 codes were launched. The area codes that were initially released witnessed a number of splits to create more and more new area codes. This has happened numerous times over the years and the reason behind the split is the population growth. The development of an area and the population growth increased the telephone use while resulting into splits. The current number of area codes that are engaged in providing their services to the states and provinces of United States of America has shot up to 300. The year 1995 brought the second phase of development of the area code system. The area codes contain three digit numbers that are made up of numbers from 0 to 9.
The area code 224 belongs to the state of Illinois and along with the area code 847 is a part of the overlay plan that serve partially the regions of Cook County, Lake County and Kate County.
